Dr Sharon Laura is a local Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine in 1996 at Newcastle University and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2006.
Dr Laura has been living and working here on the Central Coast since 2006, practicing as a breast specialist and general surgeon at Gosford Private Hospital and Gosford Public Hospital. She covers the General on call surgical roster at Gosford Public and performs general surgery, skin cancer surgery, thyroid, parathyroid, laparoscopic hernia and gallbladder surgery, as well as upper endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Despite her wide training, Dr Laura specialises in breast surgery, treating both breast cancer patients and patients with benign breast disease. She has completed both the
Level 1 and 2 oncoplastic courses, allowing her to perform immediate or delayed implant based reconstructions for breast cancer patients choosing mastectomy.
Dr Laura presents patients at the multi-disciplinary breast cancer meetings, as per best practice standards. She also works at Breast Screen in Gosford.
Dr Laura is a member of Breast Surganz and the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials group. She is involved in local research trials. She is a member of AMA and General Surgeons Australia, and contributes to the National Breast Quality Audit and the Australian Breast Device Registry.
